About
the National Team |
![]() Cameron Motorsports fields an elite National Team that competes in the Ontario Regional Karting Championship, the Snap-on Stars of Karting Championship presented by IndyCar series and other high profile events across North America. On the way to winning many Regional and National Championships in their short history, the team has earned a reputation for providing young talented drivers with a superior sporting and technical environment. The tuners and mechanics benefit from many years of experience and are supported by the CRG factory in Italy. The
real focus of the National Team is about driver development. Drivers as
young as eight get an opportunity to learn from those who are about to
graduate onto the world stage in formula cars and sports cars. Working
in a team environment helps prepare drivers, both the novice and the seasoned
pro, for the road ahead in racing and teaches them how to thrive in the
big leagues. Former Cameron Motorsports National Team drivers have moved
up the racing ladder including 2005 grads Maxime Pelletier who competes
in the Formula BMW USA series and 2006 grad Kyle Marcelli who is currently
racing across Canada and the US in select Formula Ford events. In 2005, Robert made the move to formula cars competing in the Formula BMW USA series as well as contesting the Sunoco Ron Fellows Championship. That year he would be crowned King of The Bay and win the overall ICC championship (SRFKC) while taking third overall in the Formula BMW series. That year he would also win a special event at the Race of Champions held in Paris, France and then have an impressive run at the Formula BMW World Finals in Bahrain that earned him a spot with the powerhouse Red Bull Junior Team. Wickens would go on to win the 2006 Formula BMW USA Championship and is now racing with Carlin Motorsports and Team Red Bull in the World Series of Renault. Late in 2007 Wickens joined the A1GP Team Canada squad garnering four podium results including Canada’s first ever A1GP victory as well as two pole positions. Wickens also named the 2007-2008 A1GP Rookie of the Year. In 2009, Wickens will continue with the Red Bull Junior Team and compete in the Formula Two series. The focus of this series is the development of drivers for the step to Formula 1. The Cameron Motorsports National Team provides excellence in teamwork, camraderie and driver development with championship performance the ultimate goal. |
