April 5, 2007 - As Canadian haulers roll out for Norman, Oklahoma, and the Snap-on Stars of Karting Mazda Race of the Americas, Hamilton based Cameron Motorsports/CRG will do so fully equipped for a ten member attack at four National Championships. Included in the mix are seven Canadians and the team will compete in four of five Stars classes in 2007. Leading the way in ICC is Michael Vincec from Stouffville, Ontario. The reigning Stars of Karting Rookie-of-the-Year and eKartingNews.com Rising Star, Vincec will be looking to repeat great successes from ‘06 and add to a growing resume. Along with winning at Lowe’s last year in Stars competition, Mikey-V won the Canadian National ICC Championship in Edmonton, and Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship titles in both Formula Senior and F1-K. Teamed with veteran pro-tuner Brian Bettencourt once again this season, the team is already off to a great start as Vincec scored two wins, a second, and a third at the Florida Winter Tour. Vincec will lead a four-man ICC roster for Cameron/CRG as David Carmendy, Curtis Fox, and Gianmarco Raimondo will also be in Norman. Making name for himself by scoring his first National win at final Stars of Karting 80Junior race in 2005, Carmendy had a solid rookie senior season last year where he repeated in the top ten. The native of Powell, Ohio, will be looking to contend beginning next weekend. Canadian shifter veteran Curtis Fox will also be looking for big things in 2007 as he joins Cameron Motorsports/CRG for a full look at the Stars schedule. Fox won races on his way to overall runner-up finishes in the WKA Man Cup and SRFKC last year and enters this season with high expectations. Rounding out the ICC lineup is Gianmarco Raimondo, from St. Catherines, Ontario. Raimondo had a solid learning campaign last year and broke out with a third-place finish in S1 at SKUSA SuperNationals X. A pair of Texans will take to the track in ICA under the Cameron/CRG banner as Houston’s Cody Jolly and Plano’s Garrett Napier take on the best direct-drive karters in the Nation. Jolly is heading into his sophomore senior season after a great run through the junior ranks that saw him score National wins in both Cadet and 80Junior. Now accustomed to the hectic starts in ICA, Jolly is looking for better things in ‘07. Napier is ranked #13 in the eKartingNews ICA driver rankings after a very up-and-down season last year that was capped with a ninth at the Stars of Karting National Final at Woodbine. He, too, will be looking to get off on the right foot in Oklahoma. The junior contingent will be led by David Ostella in JICA. Ranked #5 in the final Stars calculations last season, Ostella is one of the busiest karters in Canada as he will contest both coasts along with the WKA Man Cup, the SRFKC, and he recently completed both JICA and Rotax Junior at the Florida Winter Tour. The teen from Maple, Ontario, has scored eight top fives already this year including a win in Rotax. He will be joined in JICA by rookie Connor Carrothers from Sutton West. Carrothers was an Ontario force last year in Junior Light, scoring wins at multiple clubs and regionally. Eyeing his first National schedule, Carrothers also raced in the recently completed Winter Tour. Cameron Motorsports’ National Team will be rounded out by another Canadian veteran/rookie combination as Garret Grist and Julius Makos will run Cadet. Grist, from Grimsby, Ontario, is heading into his second season of Stars competition while Makos, from Richmond Hill, Ontario, will be racing his first. Makos ran the entire Florida Winter Tour and left with a bang in taking a third and fourth on his way to seventh in points while Grist spent the winter mending a broken wrist and debuted at the Ocala finale with a pair of top fives. |
