Hamilton, Ontario – January 25, 2008 – The Cameron Motorsports (CMI) elite karting team and Maranello had some strong results at the first round of the Florida Winter Tour held at the Homestead Karting Complex in Homestead, Florida. Canadians Melissa Curran and David Ostella piloted the Canadian-based CMI team’s Maranello chassis for the first time in 2008. With Melissa Curran competing in the ultra competitive Rotax Senior division and David Ostella lapping in the tough Pro Shifter division, top fifteen results would be classified as an achievement for these senior rookie competitors. During the first weekend of competition, Curran was under the watchful eye of national level tuner Brian Bettencourt. As the duo put the Maranello chassis through its paces on Friday’s practice, they were excited to get to the racing action. After having some trouble in Saturday morning’s prefinal, Curran was forced to start from the tail of the filed for the feature event where she battled her way up to a strong 30th place finish. Sunday would prove to be a lot better for the Canadian pilot as Curran finished the prefinal in 18th position. Though she was in the top half of the field, Curran battled hard in the final to advance to the 10th position and score the CMI team their first top ten result aboard a Maranello chassis. CMI’s second driver aboard a Maranello chassis was Canadian shifter pilot David Ostella. In only his second shifter event and first aboard a Maranello, Ostella battled wheel-to-wheel with some of the country’s best drivers fairing very well. Looking to improve throughout the weekend, Ostella qualified his ride in the ninth position in Saturday morning’s qualifying session before finishing up the day in a strong seventh place result. Sunday was a better day for Ostella as he tore through the field after qualifying in a disappointing 12th position. Ostella battled through the prefinal and feature events before finishing just outside the podium in the fourth position. Cameron Motorsports Inc. invites anyone and everyone to stop by the team tent in Florida and check out the new line.
