CAMERON MOTORSPORTS RACE OF THE AMERICAS PREVIEW

“CMI set for Stars action in New Castle, IN”

Hamilton, Ontario – May 30, 2008 -The Cameron Motorsports/CRG National Team will be seven strong this weekend as it takes to the track in New Castle, Indiana, at the Mazda Race of the Americas. The team will see action in four classes as the Snap-on Stars of Karting National Championship contests its first East/West combined event of the 2008 season. After a full day of practice today, qualifying and three heat races will run tomorrow before twin mains on Sunday.

Leading the way will be Michael Vincec and David Carmendy in ICC as the pair return to Stars action for the first time in a month with 31 others. Vincec has raced the opening events on both coasts and has been inside the top five in every start but one - a DNF Sunday afternoon in Utah suffered on the first lap when karts were climbing. Prior to that, the #4 ranked North American shifter pilot climbed the podium at Ocala before adding a fifth in the second start, and equalled the effort in the first final at Miller Motorsports Park when he crossed fifth. Vincec arrives in Indiana fresh from a dominating Rotax victory in Ontario and is a definite thread for the podium.

Carmendy makes his return racing for points in the East Division where he hovered around the top ten at the season opening event in Ocala. After qualifying 16th in the timed session, Carmendy worked forward in all three heat races to finish 9th, 14th, and 11th. Racing in double mains Sunday, he followed a DNF with an 11th and will be looking to crack the top ten in Indiana.

Cameron/CRG will be three strong in JICA as new team drivers Miles Maroney and Chad Grunow join Jeffrey May in a field of 43. The juniors will be divided into three groups before running two heat races which will send 32 drivers directly to the Sunday mains. The remainder will face a Last Chance Qualifier Sunday morning with six transfer positions available - but all hope to avoid that. Maroney will make his first start for Cameron/CRG as the National #4 and is thrilled to be back with CRG after time away to start the season and during the recent Florida Winter Tour. Maroney also races on both coasts, and after 4th and DNF at Ocala he scored a pair of top tens in Utah.

Grunow will also be making his maiden run with Cameron/CRG in his sophomore season of Stars competition. The teenager from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, signed with the squad last week and is very familiar with CRG after racing in the Western Canadian Rok Cup last year. After a difficult start to the season, Grunow will be looking to jump forward in his new surroundings. He is one of two Canadians in JICA, as Jeffrey May is also in Indiana. May had a forgettable debut in Ocala when he was taken out from behind in both feature events. Staying sharp with a pair of regional starts in Ontario since that time, May is eager to return to action south of the boarder.

Australian Scott Saunders will face the same situation from Spec Racer where 50 drivers will be narrowed to 36 headed to the mains. Saunders had a solid debut with the team at Miller when after qualifying 26th he raced to heat finishes of 20th, 12th, and 13th. A DNF in race one then led to a DQ when he didn’t weigh in, but Saunders came back to 18th in race two. Saunders has tested extensively in Canada during the last month, along with making a pair of rotax starts in Ontario Regional action. Kurtis Deboer will put Cameron/CRG in the Cadet field as he continues to jump in the deep end during his rookie season. Deboer completed the Florida Winter Tour, has raced both Cadet and Rotax Mini-Max in Ontario and raced the first race in Ocala. With his seat time quickly piling up, Deboer will be out for much improved results this weekend.
