CAMERON MOTORSPORTS BSRKC ROUND #2 LEAMINGTON REPORT

“CMI grabs two podiums at Point Pelee Karting”

Hamilton, Ontario – June 4, 2008 - Four members of the Cameron Motorsports/CRG National Team headed to Leamington last weekend as the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship contested its second round at Point Pelee Karting. Nelson Learn, Addison Rayner, Cameron Hogg and Enrico Menotti were the quartet and a pair climbed the podium before returning home.

Most impressive among them was Enrico Menotti cutting through the Rotax DD2 field in the final to score his first Regional win. It was a just reward after an impressive day in Southern Ontario. He began the day by edging race one winner Jason France for pole when his 29.914 second lap was good for the point by a scant 0.035! A ten-lap prefinal followed and a three-way battle for the win developed. France took the lead on the first lap and led to half while Greg Rempel demoted Menotti to third. The Cameron/CRG driver then recovered to the lead, before falling back to third once again by the time the white flag was in the air. He took second back on the last lap as the lead trio crossed within one second of each other, Menotti posting the quick lap at 30.229 seconds.

In the main event Menotti was caught out in an opening corner melee and was all the way to sixth as the field raced over the stripe the first time. Undaunted, the DD2 veteran settled in and began moving forward. He was fifth through three laps, fourth two laps later and by the end of six was by Rempel and France and facing a half a straightaway to the lead. Once again posting the quick lap of the race, Menotti was there in short order and in control through fifteen. He then spent the final quarter creating breathing room and was nearly two seconds clear at the flag.

Also in the DD2 field, Hogg was fourth from morning qualifying and stayed there as he went flag-to-flag in the prefinal. He savoured second early in the main event before France, Rempel and Menotti trained by on the same lap to knock him down to fifth. He took fourth back a lap later, just missing the podium. Rayner matched Menotti in beginning the day on pole, his coming in F125. He then led all but the final lap of the prefinal when race one winner Ryan Horses got by to steal the pole. The pair then walked ten seconds clear of the rest in the main event, posting identical 29.7's in going flag-to-flag in formation. It was the third straight trip to an Ontario Regional podium for Rayner after a win in Hamilton and a runner-up finish in Sutton.

The fourth and final member of the Cameron/CRG squad in Leamington was Rotax Mini-Max driver Nelson Learn. After a 31.939 second lap led to eighth in qualifying, Learn cut to 31.620 in the prefinal and worked forward to one spot on the grid. In the main his start was fantastic. After running third through the first lap, he was second through two! He bettered his time once again as he posted a 31.578 second lap in the main yet fell back in the second half to cross sixth.
