DRIVER NEWS: MICHAEL VINCEC - EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND #2

“Vincec to contest KZ2 this weekend in Belgium”

Hamilton, Ontario – June 26, 2008 - Cameron Motorsports/CRG senior star Michael Vincec is back in Europe today as the second round of the CIK-FIA European Championship gets set to go at Mariembourg, Belgium. Heading in with four Championship points in his pocket, the Ontario teenager will once again be contesting KZ2 in a field of over one hundred others. Vincec said he is feeling much more confident this time around as he now knows what to expect when he gets there.

“I have the experience from the first round and just know what to do now more so than anything,” he said in preparing to head to Belgium with Cameron/CRG senior tuner Trevor Wickens. “We set up somewhat on Wednesday, then Thursday morning is remaining setup, technical scrutineering, and then it becomes open practice in the afternoon where we get two or three sessions before a full practice day on Friday.” And those sessions certainly count. Exponentially more important than an open practice day in North America, tuning time is critical in Europe, especially in the massive KZ2 field where tenths of a second can make or break you.

“I believe last race when I qualified I was 42nd and I was three or four-tenths off,” he said of the incredibly tight grid. “If I was a tenth quicker, I would have been top-15. It’s that close.” A veteran of heat-race format from the Rotax World Finals and now the Stars of Karting National Championship, the #2 ranked North American shifter pilot realizes the importance of each track session and having priorities during race action. “The key thing is just trying to finish every heat race,” he said of his goals heading in. “That’s one thing I find when racing there, I’d rather finish than make a stupid move and take myself out.”

The KZ2 field will once again be split into groups A through F with each flight lining up together. The first three heat rotations take the green Saturday afternoon while the two remaining heats are run following a Sunday morning warmup. Race one is schedule for 3:15 local time Sunday with the late start rolling off at 5:25.
