CAMERON MOTORSPORTS ORKC ROUND #3 INNISFIL REPORT

“CMI scores two wins, six podiums and fourteen top tens in Innisfil”

Hamilton, Ontario – June 30, 2008 – The Cameron Motorsports National Team was back in action a week ago as it competed with a full roster in the third round of the Ontario Regional Karting Championship. Twenty team members were in Innisfil and when the team rolled out Sunday night it had collected a pair of wins, six podiums and fourteen top tens.

Leading off the Sunday schedule Addison Rayner picked up his second straight win in ProShifter after surviving a late race hail storm! The rookie shifter pilot began the day with his third straight pole position and followed it up by winning the prefinal by a half second. Lunch hour then brought in changing weather, and after a heavy rain drivers were left taking calculated risks prior to the main event. “The track was still pretty wet so we decided to stay with wets and hope for the best,” Rayner said afterward from the Cameron/CRG tent. “When we first went out corner two was totally dry, so I was hoping more rain would come!”

At the drop of the green Rayner dropped to third on the damp inside line, off the racing line, but kept his head and worked back to the point quickly. “I was just thinking, stay here and put in consistent laps to get back to the lead,” he said of his approach when falling to third at the start. It didn’t take long, as he was back to second before the first lap was out. “I went up the inside at the second last corner and it turned out pretty good,” he said of the move. “It was clean and he didn’t turn down on me. The seniors are pretty good for that - they respect each others karts.” Half a lap later Rayner was back on the point after taking the lead up top, and he cruised to a massive win afterward. “I just kept it on the track and tried not to wear down the tires,” he said of his middle stages. There were no worries in the end when rains came and hail even made an appearance! The win moved Rayner back to the championship lead in the ORKC ProShifter class with two races left to run.

The Rotax Junior field was next up and Cameron/CRG put three drivers in the top five led by Cory Luciano in second. It was a finish bolstered by a bold move on the first lap when Luciano created a three-wide situation running into turn two. Benefiting most from the inside position, he jumped well forward from eighth and by the end of the first lap was in second spot. He then chased down the leader, setting the fastest lap of the race in the process, and took a shot at the win before taking second. Fellow Cameron/CRG drivers Jeffrey May and Dylan Oribine were also inside the top five, crossing in fourth and fifth respectively.

Michael Vincec was once again king of Rotax Senior, dominating the biggest field of the weekend on a drying track Sunday. After qualifying fourth in a tight field and moving to second in the prefinal, Vincec took the main in commanding fashion after taking the lead at the wave of the green and never looking back. “I had a very good start then just tried to keep it clean, my usual habits,” he said after taking his second straight Series’ win. “I saw a couple of times that Frankie was second and I saw the gap getting bigger. I knew there was a safety zone, so it was good. I just kept it on the pavement.”

The Ontario Regional Karting Championship resumes July 25th at Mosport International Karting.
