CAMERON MOTORSPORTS HEADS TO SHAWANO FOR THE STARS EASTERN FINALE
“CMI team member vie for Divisonal Championships this weekend”

Hamilton, Ontario – July 10, 2008 – Cameron Motorsports will be gunning for Eastern Division Championships this weekend as five members of its National team converge on USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wisconsin. The Eastern Division is set to conclude with races five and six and a pair of Cameron/CRG pilots are in with legitimate title shots come Saturday. Michael Vincec enters with the point lead in headlining ICC while Californian Miles Maroney enters second in Eastern JICA points. The pair will be joined by David Carmendy in ICC, Jeffrey May in JICA, and Scott Saunders in TaG.

After winning race one at the Mazda Race of the Americas last month and repeating on the podium in race two, Michael Vincec enters with a massive 71-point lead in the ICC Eastern Division, but of course nothing really matters before drops are factored into the points, and that’s when the Championship really heats up for the finale. Vincec maintains the lead keeping a win and two third-place finishes as his best three starts while fellow Canadian Jordy Vorrath banks two runner-up finishes and a fourth-place result. It all puts the ledger 270-260 in favour of Vincec with twin mains set to run on Sunday and a win valued at 100 points.

Miles Maroney also bolstered his title hopes with a strong performance in Indiana last month when he went 4-3 and bagged 165 points in his return to CRG. Sitting sixth overall, Maroney moves to second in class when drops are applied to the current results as he drops just fourteen points and keeps another fourth-place finish, this one from the opening race in Ocala, Florida. His 245 points are second to only the 260 of Phil DeLaO who swept the Mazda Race of the Americas. The JICA division is very close and will surely require both races to settle the Championship.

Australian Scott Saunders didn’t even race at the Eastern Division opening event but after scoring a win and a runner-up finish at the East/West combined Race of the Americas he registers 190 points and enters the Championship sitting seventh in points. He moves even higher in not having to drop any points and sits fifth, just ten points from fourth and a further ten from third.

David Carmendy scored 65 points at the opening round in Ocala and added a further 68 at New Castle to sit 15th in the East heading to Shawano, both before and after drops were applied to the standings. Currently sitting as the #24 ranked shifter pilot in North America, Carmendy will be looking to move inside the top twenty this weekend and take his Eastern Division finish inside the top ten. Jeffrey May is another driver looking to move inside the top twenty as the JICA rookies currently sits 23rd in points but just nine from the top twenty. After an intense testing and racing schedule between the Race of the Americas and this coming weekend, May is sure to be on the move.
