Hamilton, Ontario – July 18, 2008 - The third summer of Robert Wickens Summer Racing School sessions begin next week as aspiring racers converge on Hamilton to take tips from some of the nation’s top karting tutors. Robert himself is home in Canada to see off the school and while he remains at the beckon call of Red Bull Racing, he plans to be trackside along with key members of the Cameron Motorsports National Team. Mike Roth and Curtis Fox will have lead rolls, as will Trevor Wickens when classes begin Monday morning. Directed at the masses of karters taking part in CMI Arrive-and-Drive programs, the school is also well tailored to beginners, and those who would simply like to turn laps under watchful eyes. “The bulk of the school is done on-track and each driver is taught to his or her personal skill level,” Wickens said. “Curtis, Mike, and other instructors are positioned around the track in positions of interest, and when they see room for improvement from a driver the instruction is nearly immediate. Drivers are waved to safely pull aside, and one-on-one feedback is delivered to the driver with the session fresh in their mind. Ultimately, it’s about improving race lines and lap times for all the students before race day.” The week-long school follows a standard daily format with a morning introduction beginning each day. After covering the outline for the day, a question-and-answer session is next on the agenda for the students. After that it’s straight out to the track for instructional time in the karts which takes the program right to a lunch break. Following the break, students have a daily classroom session with topics to include: driving styles, driving techniques, fitness, racing terminology, driving terminology and kart set-up. All instruction leads to Friday - Race Day at the Robert Wickens Summer Racing School when family members and friends line trackside to watch RWSRS Scholars put all they have learned to the test. The first 2008 session of the Robert Wickens Summer Racing School runs Monday, July 21st to Friday, July 25th. Classes start at 9am each day and run till 4:30pm.
