TEAM NEWS: CAMERON MOTORSPORTS - ORKC INNISFIL REPORT

“CMI earns one win, eight podiums and two Championship runs at ORKC finale”

Hamilton, Ontario – September 18, 2008 - It was yet another successful weekend for Cameron Motorsports/CRG in Ontario Regional Karting Championship action a week ago as the team produced a win, eight podiums and completed two Championship runs at the Innisfil finale. Ethan Livingston and Addison Rayner were the Champions, while Curtis Fox led the day with a long-awaited win in Rotax DD2. After being the quickest kart in the country at Canadian Nationals, Fox hit Innisfil ready to win the final round - but it didn’t start out so well.

“In qualifying my left front wheel started to come off so I pulled off to fix it,” Fox recalled of his qualifying adventure. “I pulled off and was not allowed to re-enter the track.” Rightfully so, and it meant Fox would be starting a twelve-lap prefinal from the back of the pack. “I didn’t really have a plan of attack, just to get as many positions as quick and as clean as I possibly could,” he said. In the end he got halfway to the front, taking five positions in the heat and reaching the inside of row three for the main. In the final Fox settled in fourth through the first lap, then was third by the end of lap three and gaging the possibilities of a win.

“I saw how my pace was compared to those in front and I figured I had a good chance to win,” he said after realizing he was moving quicker than the pair ahead. He then took second working lap eight of twenty, and moved into the lead working thirteen, each time passing in turn two. He stretched it to nearly three seconds by the checker, and the lead was never challenged. It was a positive end to the DD2 season for a driver who has won in nearly every form of kart and one he enjoyed representing Cameron/CRG in. “I am happy I ran DD2 but disappointed the Canadian Nationals didn’t go so well for me,” he said in summing up the season. “I had a good time running the class and hopefully I can have my chance to go to the Worlds next year. The class is simple, fair, and a joy to run.”

The final pass of the Innisfil race was on teammate Enrico Menotti, the busiest DD2 pilot in Canada, and locked up a Cameron 1-2 in the finale. It could well have been a sweep of the blocks, but for Michael DiMeo clipping a spinning kart moving into fourth behind Fox early in the race and ending up with a flat tire. Menotti’s second-place finish was one of four, as Livingston, Mitchell Boyd and Addison Rayner also crossed runner-up. In the case of Livingston in F1-K Junior, a championship was secured in the process while Rayner had the ProShifter class won leaving round four at Mosport. Other Cameron/CRG podiums came from Cory Luciano in Rotax Junior, Nelson Learn in Rotax Mini-Max and Alex Aldred in F1-K Junior. Full Innisfil results and Championship classifications follow:
